Jonathan Schipper

nog meer robotica vandaag Jonathan Schipper

"A self-defined singularity of existence and purpose. A fascination with interdependent parasitic life forms. We are surrounded by rules and regulations, known and unknown. Definitions of space and placement of self in conjunction with hierarchy and sanity.

"A cow is nothing more than a food item. I wish to create a mechanism that places the self in line with the hamburger. A cow must be cared for; a rancher knows what is best for the cow and designs instruments to confine and control the cow in order to insure its well being.

"Humans have purpose and identity, we know where we are going and what for. 'We are not dictated to by superior forces, we define forces.'

"We believe in ourselves and believe in our purpose. I want to be reduced to a machine by machine. I want this to destroy my ego and I don't. We feel relaxed in our ability to define other as animal, as thing. I want to realize myself as thing, flesh, food, processable, feedable, beautiful."

Marcel.lí Antúnez Roca (Moià, 1959) is well-known in the international art scene for his mechanotronic performances and robotic installations. In the nineties his avantguard mechatronic performances combined such elements as Bodybots (body-controlled robots), Systematugy (interactive narration with computers) and dresskeleton (the exoskeleton body interface).

hallo, mag ik de klimop van u?

Botanicalls allows thirsty plants to place phone calls for human help. When a plant on the botanicalls network needs a lot or a little water, it can call a human and ask for exactly what it needs.

etchings on my brain (2)

PIPILOTTI RIST“Gravity, Be My Friend”
February 10 - June 17, 2007Curator: Richard JulinMAGASIN 3 STOCKHOLM KONSTHALL
Pipilotti Rist is one of the most prominent artists working today, best known for her dream-like video installations and colour-drenched imagery. Probing both physical and psychological dimensions her exploration of the body, our senses, rituals and taboos are at once poetical, intimate and playfully entertaining.

Pipilotti is not interested in using video to criticise the media or to provide phenomenological reflection. She is interested in television as the jewel of culture pop. She follows radically on from MacLuhan and Nam June Paik, in the middle of the global village. In her monumental environments, (first one being La Chambre, an installation with a giant piece of furniture, 1994) she takes advantage of the sound and graphic potential of the television, and considers them as parts that form an atmospheric whole, consisting of design, fashion, sculptures and films and the omnipresence of music, which immerse the viewer into environments which have no clear cut boundaries or points of reference. In Art of the Millennium, published by Uta Grosenick and Burkhard Riemschneider by Taschen in 1999, a quote was chosen to sum up Pipilotti’s work “messages conveyed on emotional and sensual frequencies can break more prejudices and habits than hundreds of pamphlets and intellectual tracts ” Moreover she deals with very contemporary problems, the difference in the sexes, identity, femininity and entertainment culture.

Ana Laura Aláez (1964, Bilbao) is an exceptional and refreshing phenomenon in contemporary Spanish art. Her trademarks are spaces and moods and she loves to introduce things to locations where they do not really belong. She began her career as an installationist by decorating a clothes shop in a Spanish shopping centre to her own liking. To the great astonishment of the visitors, nothing was for sale in the shop. In the renowned Reina Sofia art museum she built a nightclub with a bar and astonished the usual art crowd while managing to attract youth to the museum. In Paris in the Palais de Tokyo she built a fully-functioning beauty salon.

To Ana Laura Aláez the traditional mode of making art is completely insignificant, though she did start her career in the early 1990s making traditional sculptures and photographs. Since then, she has made installations and promoted a perfume, collaborated with Absolut Vodka and made music in the Girls on Film project. She could be an instant pop star but she prefers the artworld, just to rattle its hypocritical atmosphere. She is also her own model, muse and work of art. She is an active feminine who enjoys her life and womanhood without declaring herself a torch-bearing feminist. To her, art is life. And that is being a human and an adventure where good and bad are joined.

brain-maps

BrainMaps.org is an interactive high-resolution digital brain atlas consisting of several dozen mouse, monkey, and human brains. The atlas is integrated with a high-speed Internet database for querying and retrieving data about brain structure and function online. Users can add their own labels and comments, and place landmarks throughout the digital brains they navigate; images, landmarks, and other annotations can be shared with other users in the BrainMaps forum

Atelier Van Lieshout (AVL)
