Ivo Lucas does not deal with souvenirs. Not in terms of an ordinary "present". Instead, he focuses on the tourists and visitors who have been the theme of his paintings for several years. The travellers appear in many layered compositions— in rooms, landscapes and street scenes – forming a distinctive part of his works; yet, they remain irritatingly alien. They are mainly shown off centre in the foreground of his paintings and—as all tourists do—they look directly at the viewer. The viewer in turn is given the possibility of looking past (or through) the tourist to grasp the entire scene.
