Steve Lambert

For me, art is a bridge that connects uncommon, idealistic, or even radical ideas with everyday life. I carefully craft various conditions where I can discuss these ideas with people and have a mutually meaningful exchange. Often this means working collaboratively with the audience, bringing them into the process or even having them physically complete the work.

Rachel Berwick

At the heart of Rachel Berwick's art is her interest in our relationship with the natural world. She confronts us with our involvement, with the finality of changes created by human tampering. Berwick reminds us of how much is at stake as species slip into oblivion and no amount of human intervention can restore them.

Vera Iliatova

Large, exhilarating, dream-like mountains, fields and seascapes overwhelm but never threaten the women and girls populating Vera Iliatova’s paintings.
Almost as if we’re watching them wander through their own dreams and thoughts, we observe as they, versions of the artist in skirts and summer dresses, underwear and streetwear, gossip with each other, explore summery rivers and darkened ice fields, and, sometimes, turn to question us.

Clare Langan

Clare Langan constructs her own reality. It is a world she has formed through directing, light control, and filming. What becomes important is the whole and the flow of the project rather than an emphasis on any single image. Within this 'whole', sequencing and editing are used effectively to create a pace and structure. It is a relentless rhythm in which we are always moving towards the shifting fuzzy horizons.

Alison Ruttan

I am an interdisciplinary artist working in drawing, photography and video of related subject matter. I am particularly interested in the complex kinds of social exchanges that are best understood visually or at the level of physiological response. For this reason much of my work has focused on appetite, sexuality and aggression. I am also interested in the subversive use of humor in art.

Justine Otto

Jessica Lagunas

My work deals with the condition of woman in contemporary society, questioning her obsessions with body image, beauty, sexuality and ageing. It honors women’s bodies and cherishes growing old. Beauty routines of embellishment have been incorporated in our daily lives in such a way that we hardly notice nor question them anymore.
My interest in this subject comes from growing up in Guatemala, a repressive, violent and sexist society. With a minimalist approach, I use various media such as installation, collage, objects, and video-performance.

Mike Cockrill

Mike Cockrill's paintings of little girls directing deadly force at clowns add a considerable wrinkle to traditional portrayals in painting of both the jester and the prepubescent female.
The little girls are depicted mischievously brandishing rifles (Puppet Show) and pistol-whipping the hapless clowns (Mercy Killing). we see the children holding their stuffed animals or cameras as they walk among the carnage of dead supine bodies, as in Two Women Walking and Camera Shy. These gun-toting Lolitas seem appropriated, at least in part, from fashion spreads of preadolescent girls in bathing suits, their smoothly tanned limbs hinting at the world of the fashion runway and of hothouse child sexuality.

Who's Afraid of Designer Babies?

Who's Afraid of Designer Babies? (BBC, 2005) (0:48:42)

Most serious scientists won't even consider the idea of cloning a human. The procedure is not very effective. Less than 10 per cent of non-human cloning attempts are successful. And many of the pregnancies result in miscarriage or deformities. It is a procedure that is simply too dangerous to use to produce a human baby.
