"The 'Z'-Boats – Modular Barges" is an art project, which started in August 2007 on the river Danube.
In the course of a two month boat journey from Krems/Austria to Ruse/Bulgaria the artist
Rainer Prohaska and his crew built a swimming sculpture based on a simple frame construction.

Blaise Drummond

Blaise Drummond's paintings, whether seen as a series or in isolation, explore the tenuous relationship between nature and culture. The artist perceives the landscape with a fresh eye that does not seek out ‘nature's bounty’, but instead focuses on what is really there, altered and revised by modern culture. Cricket grounds, picnic areas, and natural woodlands are represented as sterile areas yet are not devoid of beauty.

babel blocks

BABEL BLOCKS™ by Designers Constantin and Laurene Leon Boym is a collection of wooden action figures who represent New York City's cultural and religious diversity. Even though they (we) are "dressed" differently, they (we) are all made of identical blocks.

Reza Aramesh

Reza Aramesh's highly theatrical photographs are concerned with themes of perception and image, particularly their relation to issues of cultural constructs through globalisation and the media. A recent body of work, which draws heavily on compositions from Renaissance painting, uses non-professional actors to create images which layer the politics of stereotypical perceptions of gender, sexuality and race.

David Shrigley

A chronicler of modern life, David Shrigley sees the absurd in the everyday, capturing and rendering it in a variety of different media. In his first solo exhibition in Scotland for over 10 years, a selection of drawings, sculptures, photographs and short animations have been brought together which offer an opportunity to explore Shrigley's uniquely funny, strange and sinister world.

Joseph Kohnke

"I am interested in conversions, the expressive shift that can occur when an inanimate object is given the characteristics of life. Potato chip bags that can breathe, wigs that are baptized, a measuring tape that can actively chirp like a hundred birds, or a single operatic note emanating from a combination of water, crystal and rubber. I try to get the properties of everyday objects to ascend to the role of being a vehicle fro a type of spiritual communication. I want to create conditions where these objects can voice issues of afterlife.”

The Blue Tit Syndrome (48:17)

THE BLUE TIT SYNDROME
OR HOW TO STEAL AND GET AWAY WITH IT.
by Ludo Luykx and Steve Brouwers
Original design doesn’t exist yet original contexts are created with every design. Strong design reproduces itself. So make sure your work will be copied!
Using “the blue tit - syndrome” a phenomenon in nature that claims that evolutionary ideas with certain species seemingly happen all over the world simultaneously. We’ll prove that every graphic-designer is a thief. We’ll talk about originality, or rather the impossibility of being original in a world where all our tools encourage us to copy and paste.
We say it ‘s ridiculous to use interesting ideas only once and we whole-heartedly disagree with Albert Einstein; "The secret to creativity is knowing how to hide your sources."
We promise to be controversial, funny and above all, inspiring.
Let’s copy and don’t be shy about it.

Marten Frerichs

Anetta Mona Chisa & Lucia Tkacova

Based solely on aesthetic evaluation criteria Anetta Mona Chisa & Lucia Tkacova create new categories that marginalize and undermine traditionally steady positions of exclusively masculine, and later also more generally valid structures and local communities. Lucia Tkácová and Anetta Mona Chisa focus on problems by means of which they can humorously and ironically disrupt stable securities in the cultural, social, geographic or historical context.

Janez Janša, Janez Janša, Janez Janša

On January 27th, 2008, Janez Janša, Janez Janša, and Janez Janša performed Signature Event Context at the Holocaust Memorial in Berlin, a walking action in the corridors of the Memorial. Each one of them, equipped with a GPS device, covered a different path within the Memorial’s structure this way, together assembling a common signature visible only in a virtual space (the internet) . During the performance artists continuously repeated “Jaz sem Janez Janša, Jaz sem Janez Janša, Jaz sem Janez Janša…” (“My name is Janez Janša”).

By definition, a written signature implies the actual or empirical nonpresence of the signer. But, it will be said, it also marks and retains his having-been present in a past now, which will remain a future now, and therefore in a now in general, in the transcendental form of nowness (maintenance). This general maintenance is somehow inscribed, stapled to present punctuality, always evident and always singular, in the form of the signature.

Lise Harlev

Many of Lise Harlev's works consist of posters, brochures and placards printed in the kind of professional and dry layout which is reminiscent of those one encounters, for instance, in catalogue covers, electoral posters or travel agency ads.
By contrast, her textual messages – short, highly communicative text- formulate a subjective point of view on various political and social issues. They express the personal opinion of the artist, as well as the opinions of other individuals, outside and inside the art world.
Lise Harlev’s intention is to question, with sharp humour, the possibility of expressing a personal and complex opinion in the local and international scenario that is increasingly divided in opposite ideological alignments.

Ton Kraayeveld

Since an African residency period in 2000 the works of Ton Kraayeveld move between poles formed by African (non western) reality on one hand and European (western) cultural and painterly tradition on the other. No tourist clichés however.
Last years his work shows pseudo realistic constructions occasionally referring to Africa. In an exhibition in Berlin in 2003 Kraayeveld presented in a cool conceptual, yet playful ironic way a plan to project an African township in the district of Kreuzberg, Berlin.
