K Foundation Burn A Million Quid

K Foundation Burn a Million Quid was a publicity stunt on 23 August 1994, in which the K Foundation (an art duo consisting of Bill Drummond and Jimmy Cauty) burnt one million pounds sterling in cash on the Scottish island of Jura. This money represented the bulk of the K Foundation's funds, earned by Drummond and Cauty as The KLF, one of the United Kingdom's most successful pop groups of the early 1990s. The duo have never fully explained their motivations for the burning.

Franz Wassermann

Franz Wassermann

Christopher Lowry Johnson

" Christopher [Lowry] Johnson paints, and his landscapes are of places I'd rather visit than Paris. A truck stop that has "all nude" dancers, free beer, and a junk yard! My idea of a vacation. Johnson's work is about place and remembering. The landscapes are vague, but they're not shocking. Places like those in Johnson's paintings used to be illegal, and now they're everywhere, part of the American landscape."

Crumb

David Lynch presents one of the most critically acclaimed films ever made. A hilarious and mysterious journey through artistic genius and sexual obsession, CRUMB is a wild ride through the mind of Robert Crumb; creator of Zap Comix, Mr. Natural and Fritz the Cat. CRUMB enters a territory as spooky as it is fascinating... a portrait of the artist as misanthrope, as bad-boy visionary,as a joker and sex maniac and, finally, as hero.

Kate Gilmore

Kate Gilmore loves a challenge. For her performance-based video works, she sets up difficult physical tasks—a precarious tower of strungtogether furniture to climb, for instance—dons lipstick and a fancy dress, and documents herself making the attempt.
The dogged persistence of Gilmore’s protagonists suggests the obsessive behavior that can characterize daily efforts to cope with high expectations. These dolled-up women seem desperate for success, love, or attention—desires traditionally bound up with gender and the condition of artmaking. In all of her projects, Gilmore strives for compositional perfection, and her incongruous party clothes are always perfectly coordinated with the installation itself. Combining physical comedy, palpable effort, and a whiff of real danger, Gilmore’s work evokes time-based “endurance” work of the 1970s, such as that of Vito Acconci, and expands on feminist and performance art in the tradition of Joan Jonas and Marina Abramovic.

Gerd Arntz (1900-1988)

Already as a young man, born in a German family of traders and manufacturers, Gerd Arntz was a socially inspired and politically committed artist. In Düsseldorf, where he lived since his nineteenth, he joined a movement which wanted to turn Germany into a ‘soviet-’ or ‘council republic’, a radically socialist state form based on direct popular democracy.
