July 26, 2007, Seattle, WA. –"They don't mind being called monsters, but they sure don't like being called fools." This is Jim Riswold's take on the dictators and demagogues of the world. Mr. Riswold meticulously arranges toy dolls and representations of these tyrants in ludicrous settings and then, with the help of a team of creatives, photographs and produces large, saturated prints. He says in his mission statement at JimRiswold.com: "...we are told not to laugh at these people. Mocking them, laughing at them, satirizing them, we are told, trivializes their crimes. I would argue that only speaking about the Hitler's of the world in deadly serious tones actually pays the fools the reverence they so crave."

Norbert Schwontowski makes his own way between the paths of modernism and postmodernism. He has no need for programmatic statements; he simply paints as if the taboos of moderism had never existed. Rich in associations, his work references a wide array of painterly traditions, including but going beyond those of Romantic and Japanese art. Contemporary excesses are laid bare in Ryan McClelland’s sick visual taxidermy of modern life. McClelland presents everyday scenes of low-culture in his cool, stark images of the Zeitgeist.
When confronted by Ryan McClelland’s narrative prints, what initially strikes the viewer is the pure physicality of the artwork. They occupy a scale more akin to painting than precious printmaking, although use traditional, linoblock techniques. A myriad of stylistic and ideological contradictions present themselves, intending to deride the notion of the fine arts being the exclusive purveyor of good taste. Ryan’s work exudes a punky nihilism and he employs a consciously “primitive” approach to his practise.

Performance "THE MOBILE SEANCE" is a direct development of the project "MEDIUM" that started in spring 2001. The project is an experiment of literal realization of the thesis by Marshal MacLuen "the medium is the message". For the first time the project was held together with an artist Jury Popov in Saint Petersburg gallery "Poligon" in the center for culture "Pushkinskaya, 10". Then different artists and enthusiasts had been invited into the gallery. They had to refuse from their own personal messages and become mediums of a TV reality. Then the project started to wander on shops of video equipment of Saint Petersburg and Moscow, carrying out a role of a false-advertising of techniques sold there.
