Liz Englander

Nice work of the young talented artist Liz Englander , just the way I like it, simple, funny and wringing.

Possessed

'Possessed' enters the complicated worlds of four hoarders; people whose lives are dominated by their relationship to possessions. The film questions whether hoarding is a symptom of mental illness or a revolt against the material recklessness of consumerism. When does collecting become hoarding and why do possessions exert such an influence on our lives?

(Fabienne Arvers)

Ariana Page Russell

My own skin frequently blushes and swells. I have dermatographia, a condition in which one’s immune system exhibits hypersensitivity, via skin, that releases excessive amounts of histamine, causing capillaries to dilate and welts to appear (lasting about thirty minutes) when the skin’s surface is lightly scratched. This allows me to painlessly draw patterns and words on my skin, which I then photograph.

Kevin Zucker

David Shapiro: So, how do you make your paintings?

Kevin Zucker: I do 99% of my drawing on the computer. Then I've got a few different processes that I use for transferring plotter prints onto a smooth acrylic surface. In the end, I wind up masking those areas off and painting around the transferred ink. The process always degrades the legibility of the information, and the areas that suffer the most are those that are transferred out of the computer; those that wind up the
most "perfect" are the abstract painted areas. So, there's this constant play between something perfect and something decrepit, always with the sense that the decrepit thing was once perfect.

Laura Chasman

nurses & nursing assistants

Laura Chasman paints portraits of individuals she has encountered as a mother, artist, social worker, and friend. Using water-based gouache on museum mounting board, Chasman seeks to hold on to the transitory experience of being with people to whom she is drawn. The paintings go through many revisions in an attempt to reach beyond a physical description and capture the feeling, poetry, and nuances that convey the special qualities of her subjects.

Anna Kipervaser

Anna Kipervaser :
"the things that have always interested me, in learning as well as in making, have had to do with difference and separation between people and the folklore attached. i am interested in finding the rift that separates groups of people, feeling it out for myself, and in creating my own mythology in my work. when i paint, i tend to use birds as the unification of the differences, so as to bring about a distance to the socio-political issues at the core of the divide between the peoples whom the work is about. my work is about culture; it's about renovating and transforming the facets of social systems.

The Perforated House by Kavellaris Urban Design

Built on a vacant block on a street full of terrace houses, this home by Kavellaris Urban Design is a modern and ironic take on what could be described as today’s terrace house. The terrace design on the front of the home is perforated on huge metal sheets that fold back, revealing the stunning interior.
