The contemporary Iranian art scene is not to be underestimated. Recent auction results stand as testament to the global acknowledgement of the vitality of Iranian art, with artists such as Shirazeh Houshiary, Shirin Neshat, Parviz Tanavoli and Farhad Moshiri commanding record prices at sales around the world. Artists from Iran and the Persian diaspora have built impressive reputations and are represented in major collections and galleries throughout the world. In one word, the art world has its eyes on Iran. The Magic of Persia Contemporary Art Prize (MOP CAP) is the first award to globally recognise the talent of emerging Iranian artists, many of whom have had little exposure on the competitive international art scene. The award is designed to support and promote the career development of the most exciting young Iranian artists in the world.
