This aggressive montage pays tribute to the participatory website www.fuh2.com, home of the official Hummer salute. Jammed with image submissions, the site documents a subculture of resistance to Hummerization. Intercutting website images with Hummer commercials, this video is a cathartic rant against the (sub)urban assault vehicle.
Austrian artist Mercedes Helnwein's darkly beautiful pencil drawings are equal parts Tim Burton fairy tale, Cindy Sherman photograph, and girlish fantasy. The women in her offbeat vignettes are meticulously rendered and hopelessly engaging. For her latest show at Merry Karnowsky, Helnwein accessorizes her pretty protagonists with vintage kitchen utensils and plastic toys to create seemingly innocent narratives that quickly turn eerie thanks to anguished expressions and tense bodies

J’aime les toilettes des musées. Elles sont souvent assez propres. Miraculeusement propres même pour des toilettes gratuites. Cela n’est pas toujours si évident : essayez, même muni d’un billet de train au tarif pourtant prohibitif, de trouver des toilettes gratuites et propres dans une gare ou dans un train. J’aime aussi les toilettes des musées parce qu’elles sont en général le seul lieu non-commercial qui relie le bâtiment à des préoccupations de la vie “réelle“.

Na de val van de Berlijnse muur vertonen de in Neoklassieke stijl gebouwde monumenten, voornamelijk gelegen op en rond Unter den Linden, nog steeds de sporen van een recent oorlogsverleden. De door kogels gehavende pilaren en muren staan in schrille tegenstelling tot de door deze bouwstijl uitgedrukte onaantastbaarheid van macht en grootheid.
Oliver Jeffers artwork consists of figurative painting executed on either canvas or three dimensional objects, both found and made. His most recent solo show studied the balance between form and content by drawing parallels between the arts and sciences, in which figurative oil paintings were over laid with mathematical equations.

Portrait Series
When it gets boring and isolated, to work himself, I put myself somewhere where there is a lot of people and doing portraits. I've signed a lot of trains, buses, cafes and workplaces. It's fun to meet people in the middle of the artistic process and not just when everything is ready as it tends to be on an ordinary exhibition. So thanks to everyone who had been a model. Thank you for your time and alloy confidence.

Biting, chewing, spitting, and blinking are only some of the bodily processes Janine Antoni employs to create her art. She sets her teeth to enormous blocks of chocolate and lard; she dips her hair in paint and mops the floor with it; she lades her eyelashes with eyeliner and patterns the canvas by blinking. She takes every compulsive practice associated with femininity and hyperbolically engages it, both participating in and criticizing a society that she characterizes as "bulimic."
Why bulimic? Because, Janine Antoni believes, we are constantly and compulsively consuming and discarding the products of our culture.

The post-post parallel universe of Adam Cullen's paintings is mired in a pop culture where political correctness is well and truly dead. His women are all bikini clad and seem to be modelled on stills from old Bond movies. In these paintings, there's no middle ground between being a machete-wielding harpy or a helpless buxom wench, bound and gagged. In The Horror She was Unleashing, a testosterone-fuelled babe wrestles with a shark; Cullen's women oscillate wildly between having too much agency or none at all. And the men don't fare much better. In fact, Cullen's men are behaving very badly.

Eamon O’Kane recognizes the dichotomy in his own paintings where he seems to offer the possibilities of hope, optimism and redemption with one hand while snatching them away with the other through his surreal, foreboding, and threatening allusions. So for O’Kane, a home is not just a home, and green rolling hills are not just green rolling hills -- they become symbols of a precarious scenario where utopia apparently is within reach but actually is on the verge of being obliterated by a disturbing presence that seems to be lurking just beneath the surface.
