Elina Merenmies art in general :
The point of departure for Merenmies' art is the unconscious spiced with the nightmares and surrealist stories we encounter on a daily basis in the movies, TV and comics.
In her pictures customarily innocent cartoon characters and assorted bright toys are transformed into nightmarish monsters with fangs and blood dripping from their mouths, ripping out the heart of another strange creature.

Martin Le Chevallier

Peu avant pâques 2009, Martin Le Chevallier a retrouvé chez lui un drapeau européen modifié par une présence inattendue: le visage d'un homme barbu et endormi apparaît au centre du cercle d'étoiles.
L'artiste, qui déclare avoir vainement cherché une explication rationnelle à cette transformation, affirme que la seule réponse possible est qu'il s'agit là d'une apparition miraculeuse du visage du Christ.
« Je ne suis ni croyant ni mystique, dit-il, mais j'ai dû vaincre mon scepticisme et me rendre à l'évidence: il s'agit d'un message divin adressé à l'Europe. Ce visage, qui est comme auréolé par la constellation européenne, vient nous démontrer que l'identité de l'Europe est profondément chrétienne. »
Afin d'apporter à l'Europe ce « message d'apaisement et d'espoir », il a décidé de se rendre en procession à Bruxelles, afin de présenter aux institutions européennes le drapeau miraculé. Une châsse-reliquaire a ainsi été réalisée pour le transport de la relique à dos d'homme.

Graham Gillmore

Graham Gillmore’s paintings and works on paper employ layer upon layer of text, imagery, ideas, memories. They reveal deliberate obfuscations and willful misunderstandings. He describes his works as incorporating “multi layered texts, palmpests [sic] of memory, revisions, cancellations, second thoughts.” Dion Kliner writes “One of the things Gillmore uncovers with his erroneous juxtapositions and mischievous word play is the notion of sub-text, of some idea, some thing or some text buried within another. Look, even at his misspelling of ‘palimpsest,’ which he makes ‘palimpests’.... By pairing it with ‘memory,’ Gillmore insinuates a more accurate sense of the persistence and pestiness that memory can truly be, especially in affairs of the heart.” (Kliner, catalogue essay).

Clara 2.0 (the polite robot thereminist)

Clara was created by Sarah Angliss, a musician, sound artist and tinkerer, to play the theremin.
In Sarah’s own words:
Named in honour of the original theremin virtuoso Clara Rockmore, Clara 2.0 is a robot doll who can play the theremin live. I call her the ‘polite robot thereminist’ as she listens to a line from another player and moves her dolly arm to bring her own theremin in perfect tune.

Hikaru Miyakawa

Teilweise grenzt ihr Werk an die Definitionen von Kunst und Design, wie beispielsweise in den verfremdeten Taschen des allzu bekannten Louis Vuitton Monogramm- Designs. Typische Modefotografien arbeitet sie in mühsamer Stickerei nach, die an die traditionellen japanisch-floralen Stoffe erinnern. Neben Objekten bringt Hikaru Miyakawa ebenso Malereien hervor, die sich vor allem mit menschlichen Schicksalen beschäftigen. Ein präziser und in fotorealistischen Sequenzen ausgearbeiteter Stil zeigt beispielsweise Unfälle oder menschliche Tragödien. Auch Vögel haben als Motiv eine große Bedeutung in ihren Arbeiten. Von Federn, bis lediglich Bildausschnitte, als auch ganze Skulpturen - Anmut und Abstraktion stehen in harmonischer Beziehung zueinander Das Werk könnte als selektives Abbild der Welt aufgefasst werden und somit eine Definitionssicherheit und damit eine Benennung der Dinge über den Moment hinaus in Frage stellen. In nüchterner Präsentation greifen die Arbeiten den Beobachter auf einer sehr emotionalen Ebene.

Cellulose Meeting Pods by Paul Coudamy

A designer paying tribute of cardboard’s green factor is Architect Paul Coudamy from France. Coudamy’s eco-friendly design is the Cellolose, a meeting pod made of cardboard. Looking at the photos, the cellulose has the ability to hold up to 4 people or so making it a perfect venue for small meetings or casual talk.

The Louvre invites Umberto Eco: “Mille e tre"

Having extended an invitation to Umberto Eco, who chose to work on a theme described as “The Infinity of Lists”, the Louvre presents an exhibition of ancient and contemporary graphic works, as well as around 20 multidisciplinary events in the auditorium and the rooms of the museum.
The exhibition “Mille e tre” traces the evolution of the concept of a list through history and examines how its meaning changes with the passage of time: from its ancient use in funerary traditions to its present-day use in everyday life, via the creative processes of contemporary artists, the list is a vehicle for cultural codes and the bearer of different messages.

De Amiga 500 (ook mijn eerste PC 1990)
De Commodore liefhebbers uit de jaren 80 wilden net als heden te dage natuurlijk steeds meer computerpower. Na verloop van tijd namen zij geen genoegen meer met de 8-bits CPU’s. Helaas was de oorspronkelijke Amiga 1000 bij de introduktie erg duur en wachtten veel mensen in eerste instantie toch nog een tijdje af met een nieuwe aankoop. Gelukkig werd dit wachten beloond en introduceerde Commodore al snel daarna de Amiga 500 als gedoodverfde opvolger van de C64/128 lijn.
