We’re lucky, you and I. We have access to a material and cultural abundance that previous generations couldn’t even dream of (they didn’t have the words, you see), and all it requires of us is a lifetime of stress, anxiety, sickness, and sadness. Ta da! Christina Mazzalupo’s flat, wordy paintings do a fine job recording her ailments, which, in turn, chronicle the handfuls of shiny pills, the deepening cold, the sprawling disarray, the advanced anxiety that is our birthright, our inheritance for having been born in this place we built. Be afraid.
