Søren Behncke

With a starting point in several distorted and thought-provoking actions in the public space, Søren Behncke (1967) – also known as Papfar – has developed his own particular visual universe, full of humour, opinions, symbols, visual idiomatic blunders, and a crazy fascination with cardboard! For many years he has been fascinated by all forms of cardboard packaging. That is to say, cardboard boxes, which usually turn into waste the moment they are emptied of their contents. For this artist the waste products of consumerism – stamped with brand names from all over the world and simple graphic symbols – make up an abundance of artistic possibilities. He grasps these possibilities in his peculiar, anti-authoritarian, and humorous manner.
